Slightly drowned out by other Valentine’s Day-adjacent video game trailers and releases such as The Last of Us: Left Behind (which, incidentally, did come out on Valentine’s Day), Square Enix also released a video for the occasion a few days ago, for their Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster.
Now, folks over in Japan have been playing this since roughly Christmas day, but for those of us over here in North America and Europe, we’ll be waiting another month or so – March 18th is the release date for the remaster in the US and Canada, while it’s set to be released a few days later on March 21st in Europe.
I’m certainly seeing the HD – can’t really say it’s much of an improvement; I don’t know how to explain it but I find the new graphics a little unsettling (pre-rendered cutscenes are still gorgeous, of course, as you can see in the trailer). Either way, I’m still excited to be able to play this again since I no longer own a PlayStation 2. I know there’s a lot of mixed opinions on Tidus and this game in general, but this will always remain one of my favorite and most memorable Final Fantasy games.
